Notable Races Welsh National
The Welsh National is a Grade 3 National Hunt horse race in the United Kingdom for five-year-old and above horses. It is run over a distance of 3 miles 5½ furlongs (5,934 metres) at Chepstow Racecourse, Wales in late December. It is a handicap chase and is often contested by horses which also run in the Grand National at Aintree. There are twenty-two fences to be jumped in the race. The ground conditions are often testing with stamina at a premium. The race was first run in 1895 at Ely Racecourse in Cardiff, where it remained until the closure of the course in 1939. The race moved to its present venue in 1949.

Finale Juvenile Hurdle
The Finale Juvenile Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race in the United Kingdom for three-year-old novices. It is run over a distance of 2 miles 110 yards (3,319 metres) at Chepstow Racecourse during the Welsh National meeting in late December. There are eight hurdles to be jumped in the race. It is the first of three Grade 1 Juvenile Hurdle races to be run in the British jump racing season. The other two are the Triumph Hurdle and the Anniversary 4-Y-O Novices' Hurdle. Since 1988 Mysilv is the only horse to win either of those races (1994 Triumph Hurdle) after winning this race. A probable reason for this is that the Finale Juvenile Hurdle is almost always run under testing ground conditions suiting soft ground horses. These horses will find it more difficult under the usual quicker ground at Cheltenham and Aintree.
